Sorry for the late report! This past Sunday morning (April 30) I finally found some Mountain Quail up in the hills north of Elma. I've been looking since winter-time with no success and have been discouraged by the active logging right next to quail areas. I saw 2 Mountain Quail that quickly flushed into the brush near the top end of the A-2300 logging road. This is the same spot I have seen quail many times in the past few years. I waited around for them to re-appear, but only heard them talking to each other in the brush.

Also, I had a great look at a displaying and calling Blue Grouse in a different part of the hills. I heard Blue Grouse all over that morning. This was the first time I have seen a blue in full display!
