Subject: [Tweeters] photograph flocks!

Having finally downloaded the 632 digital photos Netta and I just
took in our overnight trip to the coast, I found a male Ring-necked
Duck in a flock of 10 or so Greater Scaups that I photographed in the
Tokeland Marina; didn't even notice it at the time, as the birds were
constantly diving, and I was trying to get photos when they were
briefly on the surface. This is an unusual location for the species,
which much prefers fresh water. Perhaps it joined a migrating flock
of scaups. You never know what you'll find in flock photos!

If anyone is planning on going out there any time soon, and you're a
bird photographer, you might check the Westport Marina, where there
were a number of Common Loons in spectacular breeding plumage. We had
one diving and coming up within 20-40 feet of us at the end of the
road in Westport, where you walk out on the dock to look for
shorebirds. Totally tame, phantastically photogenic loon. If only
Pacific Loons came into the marina.....
