Yay, we've got at least one eyeass in Bremerton! After noticing Manette
siting up higher on the nest box, I finally scoped her out and confirmed
that there's at least one baby PEREGRINE FALCON. It's showing white down,
so apparently hatched a while back. Warren, the male (yes, I named them
after the bridges in town), likes to perch in the evenings atop one of the
three-wooden-pole utility towers that are at either end of the Warren Avenue
Bridge. I haven't yet seen a prey transfer or brooding-duty shift change,
but hope to.

The drive from East to West Bremerton/RotaVista Park takes less than 5
minutes. When I left EB'ton Manette was on the nest; when I got to WB'ton,
she wasn't. That was a bit of a shock. I saw neither her nor Warren in the
immediate vicinity of the nest box, got my scope set up, and then thankfully
she returned. Was she gone 5 minutes or 50 seconds? Hard to know.

Last night I went out to the Brownsville Marina after work. Got there a
little after 7 pm, which isn't bad--it was about a 20-min drive the ferry
terminal. The sky was filled with PURPLE MARTINS and their beautiful, rich,
liquidy sounds. It was great! I estimated at least 30 birds. Several of
the gourds and tube thingies had female PUMA heads peeking out. I can't
tell the difference between adult females and male 1st-year birds,
unfortunately, so can't really tell if everyone is paired up.

The parking lot at the marina is surrounded by riparian-type trees and
shrubs. Illahee Creek (I think) runs next to it. It's a great place for
songbirds, I heard PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS, ORANGE-CROWNED, YELLOW-RUMPED,
WILSON'S, and possibly BLACK-THROATED GREY WARBLERS, AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES,
SONG and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, and more this morning. Got out there too
late to see much of anything, maybe tomorrow or next weekend.

Good birding,
Mary
