On April 13, Mary Lilga noted 130 SANDHILL CRANE over Groves Park in
Richland.

Migration is definitely underway with movements of sparrows. Though
warblers seem late, there are a few showing up in the area.

On April 21, Margaret Greger noted WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS in her Richland
yard. Though they overwinter here, there was a large movement of
White-crowns across the area through April 30. Some are still around but
numbers are definitely decreasing.

Phil Bartley found 7 SAVANNAH SPARROWS and 3 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS on Bateman
Island on April 22. Chris Simonen, Marilyn Hayes and Nancy LaFramboise
found CHIPPING SPARROWS there on April 26. Phil also reported a TOWNSEND'S
SOLITAIRE at the Audubon Nature Trail on April 23 and the COOPER'S HAWK and
5 WILSON'S SNIPE at Bateman Island. The Cooper's Hawk is nesting on Bateman
Island again this year. Two other pairs are nesting in the TriCities.

On May 4, Chris Simonen reported 20 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 2 BLACK TERNS, and a
pair of CINNAMON TEAL at McNary NWR in Burbank.

On a trip on the Columbia River from the Snyder Boat Launch to Ringold,
Chris and Fred Simonen found 1 COMMON LOON, 1 BONAPARTE'S GULL, 30 FORSTER'S
TERNS, 4 WESTERN GREBES, 17 GREAT EGRETS, 7 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 2
SPOTTED SANDPIPERS and 2 COMMON MERGANSERS on May 6.

On May 6, Jack and Murrel Dawson have found 2 GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS in
their Benton City yard.

Also on May 6, Ruth Fischer had BULLOCK'S ORIOLES return to her Richland
neighborhood.

There were 2 LEWIS' WOODPECKERS at Horn Rapids County Park found by Everett
birder Maxine Reid on May 7. On that same day, Nancy LaFramboise also found
a LEWIS' WOODPECKER and a WARBLING VIREO at Two Rivers County Park in
Kennewick. Today, May 8, there was a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER and a WARBLING
VIREO at Horn Rapids County Park.
