Subject: [Tweeters] Mt. Quail - late this year

Well, the mountain quail have finally started visiting the yard on a fairly
regular schedule. For the past week a pair have been putting in appearances
either between 6 and 7 am or between 5:30 and 8pm. Along with the
band-tailed pigeons they are all eating my out of house and home. But
seeing their beauty is worth it. Anyone wanting to come over and try for
seeing the quail can contact me off-Tweeters.

Last Friday a Black-headed Grosbeak male showed up just a day after a single
Evening Grosbeak female was here for the day. The initial flock of 12
goldfinch males is down to 4 with the others continuing on to someone else's
house/yard for the season. The four males are accompanied by three females
so there is some competition going on. Black-throated gray and
orange-crowned warblers are calling as I write. Spring is a wonderful time
of the year, full of hope and promise.

And on a safety note: I know we're supposed to sign off Tweeters with our
name, location and email address. But people should think twice about
signing off with their street address, especially when they are going on
vacation. I'm doubt honest birders are the only ones here in cyberspace
reading these postings. Being a retired police officer and having written
many reports for burglary I just thought I'd mention this personal safety
issue so we all are a bit safer out there when we go birding.
