I had a very close encounter with a Virginia Rail today at the Montake Fill. Actually this occurred on the gravel road near the soccer field, immediately west of the Fill. The Rail was loudly calling from the bushes, when I took a peek, there it was running all about. Very cute! They have a funny way of running through the brush, like little chickens.

There were many Cliff Swallows today, at one point a swirling group of about 25 over the main pond. I also saw a Wilson's Warbler, and some Western Sandpipers.
