Subject: [Tweeters] Marymoor ParK Report (Redmond, King Co., WA) 2006-05-10
Date: May 11 12:43:47 2006

Tweets - a dozen of us started out yesterday, but the group shrank back
quickly as people needed to head off to work and such. Too bad, since the
best parts of the day were later in the morning. It was cool and slightly
overcast, but really quite nice yesterday. It was also quiet, especially
for the first 2-3 hours. Nothing but AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES it seemed at
times.

Highlights:

GREEN HERON Nest found at Rowing Club
R.-breasted Sapsucker Many sightings, drumming
Pileated Woodpecker We heard the one reported by David yesterday
MOURNING DOVE Several sightings, at least 2 birds
Warbling Vireo 2 singing at the Rowing Club - nice looks
B.-throated Gray Warbler Beautiful male singing at Rowing Club
Wilson's Warbler Singing from 40 feet up a cottonwood ???
Western Tanager 1 NE of mansion, mostly just heard
B.-headed Grosbeak A few singing, but only 1 seen
Purple Finch Singing, plus female with nest materials

I must say, GREEN HERON nests can be very, very hard to see, even when
plainly visible. We were told by some rowers exactly where the nest was,
and it still took us several minutes of searching before I found it. And it
was exactly where we were told it was. No I won't tell you where to look,
and if you find it, don't stare at it too long, and don't do anything to
make the birds nervous. The only other time we ever found a nest, they
abandoned it a few weeks later.

For the day, 62 species.
