It is so hard to pick one. But, I would have to go with the Black-throated Sparrow. It was the most abundant bird while conducting my research in the Chihuahuan Desert of southern New Mexico and to be able to survive that extreme environment and to be so abundant besides, pretty cool. In addition, they can meet all their water requirements from seeds and insects if they have to. And, you just can't beat how striking they are for a sparrow.
