Hi Tweets,

I was "in a mood" yesterday evening. Best way to get out of a mood is to go birding! So I hopped on the bike & headed to the Fill.

It was already about 8pm when I arrived, and many birds had already settled. I looked in my backpack to see I had no bino's. Dammit! Still, I detected 30 avian species, including Spotted Sandpiper (bobbing it's little booty along the main pond), Cinnamon Teal (in the southeastern pond), Virginia Rail (gik, giddick, giddick, giddick), and Belted Kingfisher (just hadn't seen/heard one recently). Also heard the ominous sounds of the Brown-headed Cowbird returning to the Fill to wreak their havoc.

When I awoke this morning, I couldn't find my "Rite in the Rain" notebook. So, unshowered and uncaffeinated, I hopped on the bike and raced down. This time I remembered the bins at least. Some good migrants bopping around in place to place. I added my first of year Yellow Warbler (trying to convince me he was sweet, sweet, oh so sweet), Wilson's and Yellow-rumped Warblers (both races), Warbling Vireo (singing near the east end of the Fill). I was only out for a little over an hour, but tallied 48 species. Other highlights included the many singing Savannah Sparrows, Blue-winged Teal (in the reeds on the south and west end of the Fill, below the trail) and a pair of Least Sandpipers hiding in the shade of a woody-shrub only about 15 inches tall (when you're that tiny, you can stand in everything's shade!). Also the third day in a row where a flock of Cedar Waxwings has flown to and perched in a tree directly above me, imploring me to "see, see...see". Yes, I see. And I
hear. And I am thankful for such a lovely place to go of a morning or evening right here in Seattle.
