On our Monday 5 PM bird walk at Totem Lake, we saw one Virginia Rail chick
and two adults. The adults gave us about 15 minutes of great viewing while they
engaged in allopreening behavior. They were only about 10 feet off the
boardwalk and out in the open so it was quite a treat to see this behavior close
up.

Totem Lake has a reliable population of Rails which we hear every day and see
a few times each week.
