Hi Tweeters,

On Saturday, May 13th, Heather and I did our Birdathon from Nisqually NWR
to Moses Lake. The most pleasant surprise was a small holding pond filled
with 9 species of shorebirds.

3 Least Sandpiper
2 Western Sandpiper
16 Long-billed Dowitchers
3 Black-necked Stilts
2 American Avocets
8 Dunlin
1 Wilson's Phalarope - female
1 Red-necked Phalarope - female
1 Spotted Sandpiper

16 Long-billed Curlews in the fields just west of the ponds.

The ponds are located on the frontage road about 3 miles west of Dodson
Road, on the south side of I-90. They are holding ponds for the rest area.
This is about the only spot in the Dodson Road area that I can still find
American Avocets most years.

Final trip total on a day of perfect weather (No wind on the Eastside!) was
142.
