This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for May 17,

By now, most migrants have at least made an appearance. It looks like with
good weather, numbers were low as birds moved right through, but diversity
was normal. All hummingbirds have been accounted for as were Black-headed
Grosbeaks, Bullock's Orioles, warblers except no reports of MacGillivray's,
wrens, swallows, sparrows, Western Tanager, and most flycatchers. Now look
for vagrants and the return of Common Nighthawk and Eastern Kingbird.

On May 9, Ruth Fischer had a female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD at her Richland
feeder. The LaFramboises had a male BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD on May 7 also
in Richland.

Craig Swanson noted a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD on May 3 at Horn Rapids County
Park in the same area as last year. On May 9, Dennis Rockwell reported 2
birds there.

At Johnson Park in Richland on May 8, Bob and Pat Woodley found a SOLITARY
SANDPIPER in a wet area and a FERRUGINOUS HAWK overhead.

On May 11, Joel Tinsley reported a very territorial COOPER'S HAWK at Horn
Rapids County Park. It challenged a Great Horned Owl and was then harassed
by an American Kestrel. That must have been quite a show.

Nancy LaFramboise found a CASSIN'S VIREO and a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT at
Johnson Park in Richland on May 15.

Also on the 15th, Bob Derding reported a WHITE-FACED IBIS along Twin Bridges
Road in West Richland. It was in a flooded field not far from the
intersection of Sniveley Road.

On May 16, Ron Louderback noted the return of many expected migrants
including a LAZULI BUNTING on Hildebrand Road in Kennewick.
