Subject: [Tweeters] Marymoor Park Report (Redmond, King Co., WA) 2006-05-16

Tweets - today was a good day at Marymoor, except for the frustration of
having many great heard-only birds, especially new birds for the year.

The weather was wonderful - 54 degrees to start, warming to about 75 by the
time we left. There were 10 of us to start, so the group size was
manageable.

Highlights:

Wood Duck Flock of 8 flying north, plus several other sightings
Blue-winged Teal Male at weir, and flying
Spotted Sandpiper 1-2 along slough, incl. 1 near windmill
Willow Flycatcher Heard along edge of East Meadow
W. Wood-Pewee Seen distantly in cottonwood forest
Swainson's Thrush Mason heard song at Rowing Club, we heard whits all over
AM. PIPIT One at Compost Piles
Yellow Warbler Beautiful singing male
Western Tanager Male way at the top of a cottonwood
Bullock's Oriole Chatter heard at Rowing Club
Bl.-h. Grosbeak Many, including several females, + nest building
Evening Grosbeak Four flew NE from south of East Meadow

We also heard what was almost certainly a MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER near Dog
Central. It, of course, went silent as we got near it. I'm sure enough
that I'm counting it.

For the day, our group had 64 species. I've been hoping for a 70+ day, but
perhaps not this year.
