Sunday May 21, 2006:
A GREEN HERON, PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, HOUSE
FINCH, HERMIT THRUSH, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, PURPLE MARTINS, BAND-TAILED
PIGEONS, YELLOW WARBLERS, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, GREAT BLUE HERONS and a
BELTED KINGFISHER were seen along Beck Creek, off Maki Road in south
Nanaimo.

Saturday May 20:
BARN SWALLOWS, CEDAR WAXWINGS, WOOD DUCKS, and a PIED-BILLED GREBE were seen
at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
A BLACK SWIFT was spotted above Pym Street in Parksville.
A pair of BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS were seen in Nanoose Bay.
AMERICAN GOLDFINCH have returned to feed in the 200 block of Dawkins Lane in
Nanaimo.

Friday May 19:
An OSPREY was spotted sitting on the arm of a streetlight along Highway 19A
near the
PetCetera Store along Mary Ellan Drive in north Nanaimo.
A PIGEON GUILLEMOT, a HOODED MERGANGER and three AMERICAN GOLDFINCH were
seen at Neck Point Park in Nanaimo.
A WESTERN SCREECH OWL and a GREAT HORNED OWL were spotted in Nanoose Bay.

Thursday May 18:
A WESTERN TANAGER and an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER were seen at the end of Kaye
Road behind the Government Weigh Scales in Parksville.
A BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was seen near the old foundation at Buttertubs Marsh in
Nanaimo.

Wednesday May 17:
Six PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS, four BLACK-THROATED GREY WARBLERS, three
TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS, one ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, two YELLOW WARBLERS, two
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and a MERLIN were seen at Rathtrevor Provincial Park
in Parksville.
A GREAT-HORNED OWL, in a nest with young, and a BARRED OWL carrying food and
being mobbed by NORTHWESTERN CROWS, were seen at Rathtrevor Provincal Park
in Parksville.
Over thirty GREAT BLUE HERONS were seen nesting in the 5000 block of
Longview Drive in Deep Bay.
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were seen at Michael Lake along Yellowpoint and
Doole
Roads in Cedar.

Tuesday May 16:
A WARBLING VIREO was seen gleaning insects part way up a Garry oak Tree at
Garry Oaks Drive in Nanoose Bay.
A male BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was seen along Birchwood Road in Ladysmith.

Sunday May 14:
Two male WESTERN TANAGERS were seen near the Nanaimo River just off Spruston
Road in south Nanaimo

Saturday May13
A singing HOUSE WREN, a WOOD DUCK and a SWAINSON'S THRUSH were seen at
McGregor Marsh in north Nanaimo.
WHITE-WINGED and BLACK SCOTERS and a COMMON GOLDENEYE were seen at the
Nanoose Bay Estuary.
Two GREATER YELLOWLEGS, three DUNLIN, one WESTERN SANDPIPER, one BLACK
TURNSTONE, KILLDEER, twelve AMERICAN PIPITS and a large flock of BREWER'S
BLACKBIRDS feeding on shore flies at the Little Qualicum River Estuary just
north of Qualicum Beach.
47 BAND-TAILED PIGEONS were seen resting on a old growth Fir Tree along the
Nanaimo River near Spruston Road in south Nanaimo.

Thursday May 11:
A male WESTERN TANAGER was seen along Bechin Road in Nanaimo.
Two SPOTTED SANDPIPERS and one YELLOW WARBLER were seen at the Nanaimo River
Estuary in south Nanaimo.

Wednesday May 10:
Three EVENING GROSBEAKS and a YELLOW WARBLER were seen in the 3200 block of
Graham Road in Cassidy.

Thursday May 04:
A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD seen at Quesnel Lake near the Crow and Gate Pub in
Cedar.
