Today 8 of us enjoyed a nice morning at Nisqually. It was cool and a bit
damp, but I did the whole walk in a short sleeve shirt and a fleece vest.

The place is drying out fast, at least between McAllister Creek and the ring
dike. There weren't many ducks except for MALLARDS, WOOD DUCKS and
MERGANSERS, COMMON and HOODED. There were a few ducklings around but not too many.

Highlights of the day included lots of CEDAR WAXWINGS and the sighting of
seven SWAINSON'S THRUSH. Many more were heard, but they were like SONG SPARROWS
on the boardwalk...on the railings and running down the boardwalk. We also
saw a pair of PURPLE MARTINS up in the sang over the freshwater wetland
overlook.

The last bird we saw was an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER in the riparian area
across the parking lot from the visitor center. Not a bad way to end the day.

All told we had 41 species for the day, with the OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER
being new for the year.

Well, I'm off to Wenas. Hope to see you there. I'll be out of town next
Thursday, so I'm planning on walking the full loop on Thursday, June 8th. Until
