May 26, 2006. The following interesting birds have been reported in
Spokane County during the past week:

There were 9 new county year birds being: COMMON POORWILL, WILLOW
FLYCATCHER, LEAST FLYCATCHER, PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER, RED-EYED VIREO,
VEERY, GRAY CATBIRD, AMERICAN REDSTART, and YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT bringing
the group year list to 214. Check out the progress at

On May 25, several COMMON POORWILLS were heard west of Spokane.
WILLOW FLYCATCHERS returned to several locations May 24.
A rare LEAST FLYCATCHER was at the Spangle Academy May 22 & 23.
The first PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER was seen and heard on Mt Spokane May 23.
The first RED-EYED VIREO was on Mt Spokane May 24. Another was on the
Little Spokane River May 25.
The first VEERY was on Mt Spokane at Holcomb Road May 25.
GRAY CATBIRDS returned to at least two locations May 19 and to many
locations by May 23.
An AMERICAN REDSTART was on Mt Spokane at Holcomb Road May 23.
The first YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was on Mt Spokane May 25.

The Liberty Lake GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE was not seen on May 25. A neighbor
said he had not seen it for a few days. Of course, it could easily still be
around.
The West Medical Lake CLARK'S GREBE continues.
The Turnbull NWR pair of TRUMPTER SWANS are incubating eggs, but the old
male is likely sterile.
The only migrant shorebirds reported were two LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS at
Philleo Lake May 25.
Several American Bitterns are on Turnbull NWR. Try the boardwalk on the car
loop tour.
