I have been enjoying your column immensely this winter. As I am a new migrant (from NJ) this year, it has taken me some time to acquaint myself with so many new birds and, alas, the lack of some of my usual spring warbler treats. I was in NC during April and the first two weeks of May though, and was surprised that the Eastern migration is rather late this year.The Big Day in NJ is around Mother's Day, so it is great that you saw so many warblers so far south on the 17th!

I have a male rufous hummingbird that arrived about an hour after I hung my feeder at my home in Blaine, so I guess they have made it past Seattle by this point. Can I expect him to nest here or is he travelling through?

Also, I happen to be headed to Lincoln Park in Chicago next week to collect my daughter from college. I'd love to have the details about where to find the "magic hedge. "
