Greetings,

Yesterday (May 27) we observed a Green Heron diving at a perched Red-tailed
Hawk off South Bay Road in Olympia. This was the first Green Heron we've
observed from our yard (it appeared to be a juvenile or first summer bird,
with a streaked throat). Also had our first Bullock's Oriole in the yard and
a Mourning Dove, along with the regulars (lots of Black-headed and Evening
Grosbeaks, Spotted Towhees, Song Sparrows, House Finches, American
Goldfinches, Red-winged Blackbirds, Rufous Hummingbirds, Violet-green and
Tree Swallows, Rock Doves, European Starlings, California Quail, Ring-necked
Pheasant, Chestnut-backed and Black-capped Chickadees, Steller's Jays, as
well as at least one Downy Woodpecker, one Red-breasted Nuthatch, and one
Northern Flicker). Also found one Red-winged Blackbird nest in the pond next
door.
