Sunday May 28, 2006:
CLIFF and BARN SWALLOWS were seen above Quennell Road in Cedar.
The Sunday Bird Walk went to Beck Creek and Chase River Estuary in Nanaimo,
among the highlights were two Trumpeter Swans on the Estuary.
Ninteen birders found the following forty-two species:

"RARE BIRD ALERT"
A pair of WHIMBREL were seen on the mud flats at low tide on Piper's Lagoon
in Nanaimo.
Two female BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS are visiting feeders in the 9400 block of
Brodys Place in north Nanaimo.
A BULLOCK'S ORIOLE has been seen behind Coal Tyee School in Nanaimo.
A WOOD DUCK with chicks was seen at the Forest Museum Pond in Duncan.
BAND-TAILED PIGEONS were seen above Sherman Road in Duncan.
Friday May 26:
A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK and an AMERICAN GOLDFINCH are coming to feeders
along Dawkins Lane in Nanaimo.
A BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was seen near Beck Lake in south Wellington.
Thursday May 25:
"RARE BIRD ALERT"
A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen above Barrington Road along Rock City Road
near Linley Valley in Nanaimo
Wednesday May 24:
A SANDHILL CRANE and five BLACK SWIFTS were sighted at Buttertubs Marsh in
Nanaimo.
Tuesday May 23:
An OSPREY, a WARBLING VIREO and a WILSON'S WARBLER were seen just off
Highway 19A and Mary Ellen Drive in north Nanaimo.
A pair of WESTERN TANAGERS were spotted in the 3100 block of Kilpatrick
Road in Nanaimo.
A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was seen at feeders in the 3300 block of Roper Road
in Cedar/Yellowpoint.
Monday May 22:
A PILEATED WOODPECKER was seen at a suet feeder in the Avonlea Development
on the north end of Jinglepot Road in Nanaimo
Saturday May 20:
A RING-BILLED GULL was seen at Parksville Beach.
CALIFORNIA QUAIL were heard calling at McGregor Creek in north Nanaimo.
Four RED CROSSBILLS were seen at the end of Kaye Road behind the Government
Weigh Scales in Parksville.
