In response to Richard Smith's question about Brown-headed Cowbirds'
nest parasitism of juncos, last year I saw a junco feeding a cowbird at
the feeder on my deck. The Birder's Handbook says that the Dark-eyed
Junco is an "uncommon cowbird host."

Dark-eyed juncos have a nest with four eggs. One egg was sitting on
the edge of the nest. One of the eggs in the nest was obviously a
Brown-headed cowbird egg. I removed it and placed the egg from the
edge back in the nest. From what I've read, parasitism of juncos by
brown-headed cowbirds is supposed to be rare. Anyone have experience
with this? Rich
