A Clay-colored Sparrow was observed and heard Monday morning near Tenino. Description: Broad gray-buff medial crown strip; broad pale-buff
supercillium; white throat and malar, accented with dark lateral throat stripe and mustache/cheek; dark eyeline expanding at/near "ear"; clear
lores; clean gray nape. Directions: ~2 miles W of Tenino on Old Hwy 99 (exit 88 off I-5); .8 mi N on Melville St near the white mail box/"log
cabin" sign, in the NW corner of Rock Prairie/alpaca farm. The bird is singing and foraging from the power lines, low in the scattered mature firs, and fence post and scotch broom tops.

Also in the prairie: L Bunting (south of main farm entrance, kestrel, harrier, pheasant, meadowlark, tanager, grosbeak.
