We found three nesting pairs last weekend on three separate lakes in the
Okanogan high country, so I guess we saw a quarter of the number mentioned in the
article. Earlier, I found out that one of the chicks that I filmed last year
was a victim of predation by a Bald Eagle.

The accompanying article in today's Bellingham Herald told the amusing story
of a "75-unit development of manufactured homes" near Prosser being invaded by
marmots. I can't help but wonder if they did an EIS before they built.
I also wonder if they named it Marmot Acres or Marmot Estates or Marmot View,
or something relating to that which they might have displaced. There have
even been unconfirmed reports of attacks!
Before you know it, perhaps someone will demand that the fed (FEMA?) break
out the Weapons of Marmot Destruction!
