Hi all,

It was hard to compete with baseball there for a while, what with everyone getting excited about the ST. LOUIS NORTHERN CARDINALS. But all that is now completely forgotten, while the YardBirdRace is just beginning to heat up!

For instance PAUL WOODCOCK blasted into the race in November with 75 species to put him on the inside track for a new mark residential yard/type category in Ferndale. Woodcock has a COMMON NIGHTHAWK and a BITTERN, among others.

GENE STAGNER remains poised to set a new record in Tacoma with 69 that include some great eastside specialties: LEWIS?S WOODPECKER, CASSIN?S FINCH & MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE. Stagner is working in Acreage class, so anyone in Tacoma with a yardlist that looks more like the rest of us?s can expect to enter and win.

But rather than go through all the developments this time, I thought I?d just provide a link to an ongoing press release:

http://www.ednewbold.com/links.htm

and a link to the leaderboard:

and these three requests:

participants: feel free to update?but no pressure of course!

Participants: do you have any photos of yardbirds? I?ll post them up and credit you.

Not yet participating? Any time now till Dec. 31 midnight is a good time to enter the YardBirdRace, if you have a list of birds seen from your yard (the bird can be a mile away, if you are standing in your yard when you see it.) (The list has to be a year list, begun on January 1 2006, or at least not before that.) Entering will likely help one of these organizations: WASHINGTON BIRDER, BIRDLIFE INTERNATIONAL, AMERICAN BIRD CONSERVANCY, or your local AUDUBON CHAPTER.

Thanks, Ed Newbold residential Beacon Hill, where Butyl Creek is still closed for repairs, and the Robins are pretty bummed about it. ednewbold1 at yahoo.com or yardbirdrace at yahoo.com
