Subject: [Tweeters] Skagit Bittern, Br Pelican; Swamp Sp query

Dear Tweeters,

Today I dithered about in the AM, and didn't get
around to going birding with Howard Armstrong. Big
mistake; Howard saw two Brown Pelicans at Washington
Park. Einstein here decided it would be better at
Rosario Head, where gale winds and horizontal rain
ended up making it almost impossible to bird.

Eight or ten Canvasbacks were on Lake Erie, with other
diving ducks; an American Dipper was at the boat
launch at Pass Lake. Lots of Ruddy Ducks, Buffleheads,
and Hooded Mergansers were out on Pass Lake, trying to
steer clear of some fishermen, who seemed even more
masochistic than the birders who braved today's
weather.

Later on, at Hayton Preserve, I did enjoy a good look
at a late American Bittern during an evening
sun-break. There are lots of sparrows there: Fox,
Song, Golden-crowned, and Lincoln's. Also, about six
thousand Snow Geese are out in the fields.

I have missed the Cattle Egret across the road (last
seen near Cow Town) twice in the last two days.

If any Tweeters who know exactly where last week's
Swamp Sparrow was seen at Fir Island Game Range,
please e-mail me with some directions--that would be
most appreciated.

Good birding!

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
