I will be in mid/south Chile for 2 1/2 weeks during the second half of
January. A week of this will be taken up on a flyfishing trip. A buddy and
I would like to take the rest of the time checking out the natural
beauty/wildlife of the area.

The flyfishing trip ends in Puerto Montt. We have already planned a day
trip to Chiloe to see the Magellanic/Humboldt penguins, giant petrels,
diving petrels, etc. Other than that, we still have 7 days to plan.

I would appreciate it if someone can give me suggestions on how to plan the
rest of the itinerary. Of particular interest would be additional penguins
(maybe gentoos or rockhoppers in Tierra Del Fuego?), rheas, Magellanic
woodpeckers, albatrosses, condors, sheathbills, other seabirds, etc. I have
all the books I can find on the area, including Birds of Chile (Alvaro
Jaramillo), Birds of Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego & Antarctic Peninsula
(Couve and Vidal), etc.

At this point, I am open to anything, including Antarctica, Ushuaia, Punta
Arenas, Falklands, Argentina, whatever, as long as I can get there from
Puerto Montt.
