RARE BIRD ALERT for EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE in Delta.


Sightings for Sunday, November 5

In with a flock of 650 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS along Hornby
Drive in Delta between 104th and 112th Streets (just S of Hwy 99)
were a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER (juvenile), an AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVER (juvenile), a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, and 3
RED KNOTS. Nearby, at the foot of 72nd Street, were 2 SHORT-EARED
OWLS and a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK.

The wintering WILLET was seen again along the south side of the
Tsawwassen ferry jetty in Delta, and 100 BRANT were seen off the
north side of the jetty.

At Boundary Bay Regional Park, on the west side of Boundary
Bay in Delta, birds seen included 2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GEESE, 60 BRANT, and 2 NORTHERN SHRIKES.

Another GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen at
the Jericho Park ponds in Vancouver.

Two MUTE SWANS were seen in Canoe Pass, Delta, just S
of the Westham Island bridge.


Sightings for Saturday, November 4

Birds reported from the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta included 6
SANDHILL CRANES, an immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK,
2 SHORT-EARED OWLS, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS,
and a SNOWY OWL on Westham Island just S of the sanctuary.


Sightings for Friday, November 3

On the Vancouver Airport property on Sea Island, Richmond,
birds seen included 4 SHORT-EARED OWLS, a NORTHERN SHRIKE
near the UPS building, and 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS near the Coast
Guard station. The owls were on the north side of the airport where
they might have been visible from Ferguson Road.


Sightings for Thursday, November 2

A very late STILT SANDPIPER was still present at the Reifel Bird
Sanctuary in Delta.


Sightings for Wednesday, November 1

A MARBLED GODWIT, 2 late SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, and a
LEAST SANDPIPER were seen with hordes of DUNLIN along the
Boundary Bay shoreline in Delta between 96th and 112th Streets.
A SHORT-EARED OWL was also seen near the foot of 72nd Street.


Sightings for Tuesday, October 31st

15 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were observed in a large flock of CEDAR
WAXWINGS at Elgin Heritage Park in Surrey.


Sightings for Monday, October 30th

8 SANDHILL CRANES were seen flying together over 168th St. in Surrey.


Sightings for Sunday, October 29th

One EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was seen on the roadside
in front of 3749 34th Street in Delta, about a block south of
River Road, close to where 3 of them have been seen for
more than a week.

BRANT are back with 4 at Beach Grove and 21 off the Roberts Bank
coal port jetty in Delta.


Sightings for Saturday, October 28th:

A SNOW BUNTING was along English Bay Beach in Vancouver near the
Inuit Sculpture.


Sightings for Friday, October 27th:

On the White Rock waterfront there was a WESTERN GULL, and at
the "White Rock", a WILLET.

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK observed hovering along 36th Ave west
of 72nd Street in Delta.

2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES continue in front of 3410 River
Road West in Delta, just west of the Westham Island bridge.


Sightings for Wednesday, October 25th

2 late STILT SANDPIPERS were seen near the observation tower
at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta.


Sightings for Tuesday, October 24th:

A SWAMP SPARROW was observed near the tower at Reifel Refuge in
Delta.

A late SEMIPALMATED PLOVER observed on the beach at Iona Island,
Richmond.
