The Everett CBC will be held this year on Saturday, December 16. Despite
its name, the CBC circle is centered at Marysville and goes as far south as
the Everett waterfront, the Everett STP, and as far north as Island
Crossing, Arlington airport and Norman Rd; the eastern edge reaches 131st
Street and Getchell Hill Rd east of Marysville, while at the west we get
Jetty and Gedney islands, and a small sliver of the south end of Camano I.
The count has been above 135 species the last two years, thanks largely to a
super team of gung-ho observers. Last year's CBC produced (first time ever
for any Washington Christmas Count) not one but two swallow species--two
Barn and six Tree, while the boat party had a Snowy Owl on Jetty I.--the
swallow/owl combo providing for what had to be one of the most unique CBC
lists anywhere last year. Among other notables, we had a record-high of
that hunker-down skulker of the weedy/grassy thickets in the lowland
bottomlands, the Lincoln's Sparrow (83 if memory serves right).
