This afternoon (11/11) around 4 PM, Jan Skau and I found a juvenile EMPEROR GOOSE in the wetlands on our way to Vancouver Lake, just past milepost 3 on the right side of Lower River Road, but before we got to the blue generating plant on the left. To get to this location, we took the Fourth Plain exit off I-5 and headed west.

The bird's plumage was somewhere between that of the juvenile and the adult shown in Sibley's books - much more white than the juvenile, but far less white than the adult - and it kept flashing its lovely orange legs and feet when it dabbled. We had nice looks from the shoulder of the road, as it is elevated considerably from the fields. The bird was hanging around with hundreds of Cackling Geese.
