Sunday November 12, 2006:
An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD is coming to feeders in the Rocky Point area of
Nanaimo.
The Sunday Bird Walk went to the Nanaimo River Estuary in Nanaimo.
Among the highlites were great close looks at the SHORT-EARED OWL and we
watched two NORTHERN SHRIKE hunt from separate perches in the same tree.
Eleven birders found the following thirty-six species:
GREAT BLUE HERON, TRUMPETER SWAN, AMERICAN WIGEON, MALLARD, NORTHERN
PINTAIL, HOODED MERGANGER, BUFFLEHEAD, BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, COMMON MERGANSER,
BALD EAGLE,COOPER'S HAWK, RED-TAILED HAWK, NORTHERN HARRIER, SHORT-EARED
OWL, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL, BELTED KINGFISHER, NORTHERN FLICKER,DOWNY
WOODPECKER, NORTHERN SHRIKE, NORTHWESTERN CROW, STELLER'S JAY, COMMON RAVEN,
AMERICAN ROBIN, EUROPEAN STARLING, SPOTTED TOWHEE, BEWICK'S WREN, WINTER
WREN, BUSHTIT, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, SONG SPARROW, WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW, GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO, HOUSE FINCH and PURPLE
FINCH.

Saturday November 11:
A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen flying over the Bird Store on Metral Drive in
Nanaimo.
75 DUNLIN, six BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, seventeen BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS and
BLACK TURNSTONES were seen at the end of Kinkade Road just north Qualicum
Beach.

Friday November 10:
A PEREGRINE was spotted being chased by NORTHWEST CROWS along Meridian Way
in Parksville.
A HOODED MERGANGER was spotted on Diver Lake in Nanaimo.
An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was seen visiting feeders in the 500 block of
Greenbrier Place in Nanaimo.

Wednesday November 08:
A SCAUP was seen at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.

Tuesday November 07:
The TROPICAL KINGBIRD was again in the same area along Dolphin Drive in
Nanoose Bay
A TRUMPETER SWAN was seen swimming just off shore at Rathrevor Provincial
Park in Parksville

Sunday November 05:
A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was seen along Dolphin Drive near Renmora Place in
Nanoose Bay.
A SNOW BUNTING was sighted at Piper's Lagoon in Nanaimo.
A PILEATED WOODPECKER and a HAIRY WOODPECKER are visiting suet feeders on
Mudge Island.
