Tweets (and Ed Swan),

Yesterday at KVI Beach on Vashon Island there was an odd male duck mixing with the Mallards. Sort of like a Mallard but the head showed a coppery buff cheek, somewhat darker broadly above and behind the eye, with more greenish at the base of what on a Mallard would be the green head. The bill was narrower than a Mallards, pale yellow on the margins and dark on top. The rump was black like both Mallard and Gadwall but the back was a solid dove gray, lacking the blackish contrast of the Mallard. It wouldn't fly or spread its wings, so couldn't see anything of the speculum. The head shape also seemed more like a Gadwall, higher, more rounded crown. Legs orange.

Has this bird been hanging out there before?
