I arrived at Discovery Park today at about 1:30, I guess. I went to the visitors' center and soon learned that some guy name Matt Bartels had this morning found 2 Pine Grosbeaks north of the south parking lot. Penny Rose was just heading that way, so we searched together. A perched Merlin soon departed and within a few minutes we heard and then saw one of the Pine Grosbeaks that Matt had found earlier. Throughout the afternoon, the grosbeaks would vocalise and perch from time to time at the top of conifer trees at the east and the south edges of the meadow that is north of the south parking lot. The birds were quite vocal this afternoon, but would be quiet for periods of time, only to continue calling later.

I last saw one of the birds at 3:25PM today.

Thank you, Matt!

Subject: [Tweeters] PINE GROSBEAKS at Discovery Park, Seattle [Thurs Nov 16]

Hi all -
This morning at Discovery Park (in Seattle) , I came across 2 PINE
GROSBEAKS near the South Parking Lot. Yay!

As of 12:35, they were still present, feeding in a Madrone tree.

Both had all gray undersides, one with yellowish on the head & rump,
the other more russety/purplish.
The best way to locate and relocate them was to listen for the pretty
loud 'fi-leep fi-leep' call they were making.

I first heard one a while before 9:00, and it wasn't until 9:00 that
I finally got good looks. From 9-10, at least one was staying around
the South Parking lot. From 10:30 - noon I didn't hear them, but then
at a bit after noon, 2 reappeared and stayed until I left at 12:35.

The last location I saw them was north north east, out of the north
end of the South Parking Lot. In general, they seemed to be sitting
up at the tops of various trees.

1:50 pm Update: I just got a call from Penny Rose and Marv Breece.
They are on the scene, watching the PIGR right now.
