All,

Thanks to Barry Ulman for the 'Snowy' heads-up, we're just back from a
morning trip to Blaine and we did locate the Snowy Owl.

It was quite windy at the harbor and when I first stepped out of the car, I
noticed a large flock of gulls on the wing, surrounding and harassing a
noticeably larger white bird. I knew immediately what it was and made a lucky
guess as to where it was headed. It settled on the breakwater on the south side
of the boat cut. Since the end of the pier is closed, it was best viewed from
the pier behind the processing plants.

The tide was in and white caps were aplenty, but we also observed good
numbers of Common Loons, Harlequins, Western Grebes, Surf and White-winged
Scoters, and Red-breasted Mergansers, along with the usual suspects.

Cheers,
Joe Meche
