Saturday at the Montlake Fill ponds there were 2 non-typical
shovellers that I'm guessing are hybrids. They had the distinctive
large black bills and white speckled breasts. But instead of rust
flanks, they both had a light blue patch on their sides, and behind
that irridescent green. As if they were crossed with a teal or
mallard.

And they were diving. I haven't seen shovellers dive before, and
there were other shovellers on the same pond, dabbling not diving.

Have you seen these putative hybrids? Know what they are?
