I was just wondering why I had not seen any grey squirrels in the last few days, when a Red-tailed hawk flew low through the yard and flushing about 20 morning doves. The hawk was so slow that I could not be sure she was hunting the doves and wondered if she was hunting a squirrel I had not seen.

The doves did not take her seriously ether and came back to the feeder within moments of the scare. As the day grew darker she again made a pass at the doves from the direction she had landed the first time. Again the doves easily flew away. The only way I could see her catching one would be if a dove panicked and actually flew into her.

I am wondering if the hawk is healthy....

I counted 4 Red-tailed hawks this morning from my house (near NW Trek) and the Safeway in Graham.
