A neighbor mentioned that he saw a single mourning dove in his yard a couple of days ago. It was the first time in the more than 40 years he's lived here that he has seen one. We live just up the hill from the Mee Kwa Mooks greenbelt along Puget Sound in West Seattle. Does anyone know the status of these birds in this area and Seattle?

Also, I'm concerned that my female Anna's may not have survived last night's bitter cold winds. I haven't seen her today at all. The male has stayed close to the hummingbird feeders all day. When I brought out fresh, slightly warm nectar at first light, the male flew to me immediately and drank from the feeder while I held it. It was such a delight to spend that time with him, especially knowing he survived last night's storm. Now if only the female would visit the feeder, all will be well again here in my backyard sanctuary.
