Hi folks,

I popped down to Brackett's Landing on my way from Edmonds today and got a good show of 4 harbor porpoises heading south right through the ferry lane (and under the departing ferry). It was interesting to see how habituated these guys were to the large ship, which seemed virtually invisible to them. People on the ship got a good show if they happened to be looking over and out of the ship as it started to leave for Kingston. A quick bino scan of the water resulted in many common species that hang in that area including:

surf scoter
DC cormorant
Brant's cormorant
G-W X Western gull hybrids
GW gull
horned grebe
Barrow's goldeneye
bufflehead
western grebe
red-necked grebe
mallards (flyover)
mew gull
white-crowned sparrows (on beach)
a female green-winged teal (a loner on the north side of the jetty, looking a bit haggard)

...and probably a few others, but it was gettin' cold! I've noticed over the past few cold days that the Anna's hummingbirds that are often around the Edmonds Wastewater Treatment Plant (line of cherry trees) in the morning have not been around. Hopefully they're hunkered-up at a local feeder...

Regards,
