I checked the Washougal Sewage Lagoons and the surrounding fields
of the Steigerwald Lake NWR yesterday (11-29-06)at 2:30 PM. The LONG-
TAILED DUCK wasn't visible until a maintenance truck disturbed the
flock of birds and they moved into the middle of the pond. The
leucistic CACKLING GOOSE was in a flock just east of Gibbons Creek and
has been joined by an adult and a juvenile SNOW GOOSE. Until it raises
it's head it looks like a third Snow Goose.
The ice was off of the pavement of Highway 14 at 8:00 AM this
morning but the view of the sewage lagoons was blocked by a line of
semi-trucks chaining up to go east through the Gorge.
