Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge - November 30, 2006

A group of six birders enjoyed a dry, partly sunny and cold walk at the refuge today. Highlights included a sora just off the observation deck at the beginning of the walk. Not far down the trail to McAlllister Creek was a group of 7 killdeer, and an American bittern gave us a close view before flying off. Then off the field to our left were about a dozen snow geese. There were many ducks when we arrived at McAllister Creek, including American wigeon, bufflehead, mallard, Northern pintail and an estimated 150 plus green-winged teal. We got terrific views of ruby-crowned and golden-crowned kinglets on the boardwalk to the twin barns. There were also two peregrine falcons having a bit of a squabble just above the barns. It was another great day of birding at the refuge. Total species: 44.
