Sunday October 01, 2006:
A MARBLED MURRELET was spotted off of Departure Bay in Nanaimo.
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS are visiting feeders in the 3700 block of Sundown Drive
in Nanaimo.
The Sunday bird walk went to Englishman River Estuary, Plummer Road side in
Parksville. Among the highlites were a PARASITIC JAEGER which flew right
over us as we stood on the beach overlooking the ocean and an AMERICAN TREE
SPARROW that was seen near the start of the walk. Fifteen birders found the
following fifty-eight species:
PARASITIC JAEGER, COMMON & PACIFIC LOONS, HORNED GREBE, RED-NECKED GREBES,
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS, PELAGIC CORMORANTS, GREAT BLUE HERON, CANADA
GOOSE, AMERICAN WIGEON, MALLARD, NORTHERN PINTAIL, GREEN-WINGED TEAL,
HARLEQUIN DUCK, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER,
BLACK SCOTER, SURF SCOTER, LONG-TAILED DUCK, COMMON MERGANSER,BALD EAGLE,
MERLIN, BLACK OYSTERCATCHER, KILLDEER, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, WESTERN
SANDPIPER, MEW GULL, CALIFORNIA GULL,GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL, BELTED
KINGFISHER, NORTHERN FLICKER, STELLER'S JAY, NORTHWESTERN CROW, COMMON
RAVEN, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, BUSHTIT, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, BROWN
CREEPER, BEWICK'S WREN, WINTER WREN, HUTTON'S VIREO, TOWNSEND'S WARBLER,
BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, AMERICAN ROBIN, VARIED THRUSH, SONG SPARROW,
AMERICAN TREE SPARROWWHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW,
DARK-EYED JUNCO, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD,
PURPLE FINCH, HOUSE FINCH, SPOTTED TOWHEE, BREWERS BLACKBIRD, and HOUSE
SPARROW.

Saturday September 30:
A WILLOW FLYCATCHER was spotted at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
Thirty AMERICAN GOLDFINCH were seen along 9th Street in Nanaimo.
A female TOWNSEND'S WARBLER, DARK-EYED JUNCOS and STELLER'S JAYS were seen
in the 5500 block of Ventura Drive in Nanaimo.
NORTHERN HARRIER, PIED-BILLED GREBE, GREAT BLUE HERON, CANADA GOOSE, WOOD
DUCKS, AMERICAN WIGEON, MALLARDS, RING-NECKED DUCKS, BALD EAGLE,
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, CALIFORNIA QUAIL, AMERICAN COOT, KILLDEER, ROCK PIGEON,
BAND-TAILED PIGEONS, NORTHERN FLICKER, GOLDEN-CROWNED
KINGLETS, CEDAR WAXWINGS, BEWICK'S WREN, AMERICAN ROBIN, BUSHTITS,
CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES,STELLER'S JAYS, NORTHWESTERN CROWS, EUROPEAN
STARLINGS, HOUSE SPARROWS, PURPLE FINCH, HOUSE FINCH, 50 PINE SISKINS,
AMERICAN GOLDFINCH, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, FOX SPARROW, SONG SPARROW,
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS, DARK-EYED
JUNCOS, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS and BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS were seen at
Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.

Friday September 29:
A pair of AMERICAN DIPPERS were seen on the Cowichan River in Duncan.
PINE SISKINS were seen along Arbutus Road in Qualicum Beach.

Thursday September 28:
AMERICAN PIPITS, CASSIN'S VIREO, PINE SISKINS, BUSHTITS, MERLIN, SPOTTED
TOWHEES, STELLER'S JAYS, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES, and RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCHES were seen at McGregor Marsh in north Nanaimo.

Wednesday September 27:
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS and TOWNSEND'S WARBLER were seen near Beaufort and
Boundry Roads in Nanaimo.
An OSPREY was seen near the Little Qualicum River at the Riverside Resort in
Qualicum Beach.

Tuesday September 26:
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS were seen on Gabrolia Island.

Sunday September 24:
AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS were seen at the Englishman River Estuary in
Parksville.
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, TURKEY VULTURES, PILEATED WOODPECKERS, DARK-EYED JUNCOS,
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, NORTHERN FLICKERS, three SANDHILL CRANES, AMERICAN
ROBINS, were seen in the 600 block of Cowland Road in Bowser.
A NORTHERN HARRIER, GREAT BLUE HERONS, RED-BREASTED MERGANGERS, a WESTERN
MEADOWLARK, WHITE-CROWNED , GOLDEN-CROWNED, SONG and SAVANNAH SPARROWS were
seen at the Nanaimo River Estuary in south Nanaimo.

Saturday September 23:
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, WOOD DUCKS, STELLER'S JAYS, AMERICAN

COOTS, AMERICAN WIGEON, SONG SPARROW, GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS and
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS were seen at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
