Saturday, Larry Moss and I hiked and birded the trail up to Easy Pass in eastern Skagit County. There were not a lot of birds but the scenery and weather were great. One of the highlights was seeing 3 Black Bear at close range in the upper meadows.

We camped out the night before at Colonial Campground and had NORTHERN PYGMY OWL calling in the early morning hours. The trek up to Easy Pass produced very close looks at five SOOTY GROUSE, which were about five or six feet from us along the trail. On the way down from the pass we had 3 PINE GROSBEAK (two males and one female), feeding on fruit of Mountain Ash, and the views were also excellent, about ten feet away.

Cheers and Good Birding;
