Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 5. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On October 4 a RED-NECKED STINT was seen at the South Jetty of the Siuslaw
River. That day a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was in Bend. The WHITE-WINGED DOVE
continues to be seen at the farm six miles south of Burns Junction.

Heavy movements of WHITE-FRONTED, SNOW, and CACKLING GEESE were reported
during the week. Good sized kettles of TURKEY VULTURES were also reported.
LAPLAND LONGSPURS are now showing up along the coast.

The September 30 offshore boat trip out of Newport recorded a very unusual
23 SKUAS, a MANX SHEARWATER, and about a thousand FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen September 30 at Bandon. A light phased
GYRFALCON was on the North Spit of Coos Bay September 27. On September 30 a
PALM WARBLER was at the South Jetty of the Siuslaw River. A RED KNOT was
there October 3. A PALM WARBLER was seen September 29 on Cascade Head. A
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was there October 1.

A light phased GYRFALCON was reported September 30 near timberline Lodge on
Mt. Hood. On October 1 a BOREAL OWL was at Broken Top, north of Mt.
Bachelor. On October 1 an ACORN WOODPECKER was at the Running Y Ranch at the
south end of Upper Klamath Lake, and a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was on the
lake at Rocky Point.
