Laurie Ness was the only caller to the alert since the last update. She
found a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER on Bateman Island on September 10 and a
roosting TURKEY VULTURE at 44th and Sylvester in Pasco on September 19.

Gleanings from LCBirds: Bonnie Dunham had 16 TURKEY VULTURES over her
Finley home on September 18. This is a high count for this species locally.

Jane Abel located 3 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS on the third island north of
Nelson Island in the Columbia River off Richland on September 29. This
island is in Franklin county. Other shorebirds in the area have included
Killdeer, Long-billed Dowitcher, both yellowlegs, Wilson's Snipe, Pectoral,
Least, and Western Sandpipers. Yet to be reported is Stilt Sandpiper.

On September 28, Nancy LaFramboise found 2 GOLDEN-CROWNED and 1 FOX SPARROW
on Bateman Island in Richland. The WHITE-THROATED SPARROW in the
LaFramboise's Richland yard was only present for one day on September 25.

On October 4, there was a large gathering of 60 WESTERN GREBES in the
Columbia River seen from Columbia Park in Kennewick. From there and from
Bateman Island, Horned and Pied-billed Grebes have been noted. A RED-NECKED
GREBE was observed from Bateman Island on September 28.

The best recent migrant in the area was on private property in Kennewick on
October 4. A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH entertained a few observers with its
characteristic tail bobbing behavior. For a normally very secretive bird,
this one was amazingly bold.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number, date, and
