On Thursday, 10/5, while waiting for the 3:35 Ferry to Edmonds I looked
around the ferry landing. Approximately 15 Double-crested cormorants, the
majority immatures. Also 12 Heerman?s gulls resting on the pilings, and a
very large number of what appeared to be Common terns on the water to the
south ? as many as 100 ? 150. And of course the usual numbers of
opportunistic Northwestern crows and Glaucous-winged gulls in and around the
parking lot. On the way over saw what appeared to be a Dall?s porpoise
surface and roll just off the port side of the ferry ? about 2/3 of the way
to Edmonds. Looked like a small orca without the large dorsal.
