glad to hear about the franklins gulls

saw one yesterday (sept 30) at sunset on lummi bay. wasnt sure about it
being this far from its usual haunts.
also seen on lummi bay and surrounding marsh

northern harrier
short-eared owl
120+ canada geese
ring billed gulls
green winged teal (F)
many teal like ducks past the useful range of binos

gulls gulls gulls

and four sandpiper-y birds which may have been dowitchers but i was too
busy trying to decide if the GWTE was a garganey or not and missed my
chance to see them close enough to id. grrrrrrrr.

the day before in same location found a pied billed grebe and a few
eared grebes!!!!
as well as 2 greater yellowlegs, 12 least sandpipers, 1 western
sandpiper and 2 american pipits working the gravel of the breakwater
road.

lots of gulls, lots of surf scoters and quite a few - at least 5 -
common loons on the open water of the strait of georgia

oh yeah - a raft of more than 50 common mergansers near the nooksack
delta
