hi gang

saw a magnificent sight this weekend - looking out the window i saw
dark eyed junco fly out of small cedar (20-25 ft) and he made it about
two feet when he did an aboout face and went right back in - i said
what??? and looked around in time to see a either a big sharp-shinned
hawk or a small cooper's flyu right up to the tree and scare the wits
out of all the juncos and song sparrows - he hung around fruitlessly
making attempts and then flew right into the cedar, disappearing among
the branches - but oh the commotion - easy to track him as he spiralled
aroud the trunk rsing up - what crazy agility - i'd had no idea what
sort of flight these birds were capable of - really something - no luck
this time for the hawk but she appeared to be in pretty good body
condition so better luck next time.

take care
