Tweets,
Monday I saw at least 4 accipiters and an apparent "reddish" Fox Sparrow.
A juv Sharpy took chase to two smallish juv Cooper's Hawks. The air show
lasted for several minutes--great fun! This was near Mull & Old
Military Rds east of Tenino. At the alpaca ranch west of town a
kestrel chased off a
considerably larger Cooper's Hawk. Earlier I caught a brief but
non-definitive view of a possible N Goshawk a short distance up Vantine
Rd, east and north of Tenino. At the Mull Rd marsh behind the Oregon Ash
was a Fox Sparrow with some "red" characteristics: Browns all
reddish-tinted; contrasting gray on nape; some streaking on back;
good-size pale
malar "spot" below & behind eye; fairly bright/saturated rusty on wing and
rump/tail-base. View was obstructed, but looked similar to one such
individual present here last season, but not the same as the second
individual that overall was paler/grayer and more contrasty.
Good birding!
