Subject: [Tweeters] different looking juncos

Yesterday evening I had a number of Dark-eyed Juncos that looke different from
the juncos I regularly see in my yard (They weren't here a week ago when we
banded in my yard). The mantles were a distinct chestnut--almost a glowing
chestnut (but not quite rufus)--much brighter than the other juncos beside
them. This was true of both the males and the females. And they looked really
healthy--a couple of the males looked like they had extra weight in the
chest(it wasn't cold enough for them to be fluffed) The males had dark black
heads, so they weren't gray-headed. Has anyone else observed this in the last
couple of days? Are these Oregon Juncos, or a different sub-species migrating through?
