Subject: [Tweeters] A flicker comedy

Yesterday I was sitting enjoying the sunshine and watching a flicker poke
around at the fallen apples when the bird starting striking kind of fast and
hard, I suspect maybe trying to catch an insect? By accident I think it
speared into an apple, all the way up to the very end of its beak close to
the head. It was only there for a moment, it lifted its head with the apple
skewered on its beak, then the bird used its foot to hold down the apple and
extract itself. The flicker with its bill pierced through an apple looked
thoroughly ridicules and I laughed out loud, perhaps insulting the bird who
promptly left.
