Yesterday, Matt Dufort and I spent the day birding around the Stilliguamish / Skagit River Deltas and vicinity. We took a lot of time looking through blackbird flocks hoping to pick out a Rusty Blackbird but did not any luck with this effort. The weather was either foggy and/or overcast and quite cool the whole day, which made birding a little tough in the morning. Nothing spectacular but highlights of the trip were:

TOWNSEND'S WARBLER - Two birds seen along Boe Road

AMERICAN KESTREL - One seen along Tholme Road - South of Stanwood

PEREGRINE FALCON - One at Big Ditch

MERLIN - One at the Stanwood Sewage Ponds (which was feasting on a small bird - swallowing the foot of the victim) and One at the Skagit Wildlife Management Headquarters

BARN OWL - One at the Skagit Wildlife Management Headquarters

SNOW GOOSE - Large flock seen flying by at Dig Ditch and also at the Hayton Snow Goose Reserve

LESSER YELLOWLEGS - Stanwood Sewage Ponds

WILSON'S SNIPE - Stanwood Sewage Ponds

VIRGINIA RAIL - Big Ditch and Hayton Reserve (heard only)

Cheers and Good Birding;

Michael Fleming
