Sunday October 15, 2006:
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS were spotted coming to feeders in the 1600 block of
Brierly Hill in Nanaimo.
An VARIED THRUSH was seen in a yard in the 200 block of Dawkins Lane in
Nanaimo.
The Sunday bird walk went to the Nanaimo River Estuary in south Nanaimo.
Thirteen birders found the following thirty species
Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Canada Goose, Mallard,
Ring-necked Duck, Northern Pintail, Common and Red-breasted Mergansers, Bald
Eagle, Northern Harrier, Red-tailed Hawk, Wilson's Snipe, Glaucous-winged
Gull, Northern Flicker, Northwestern Crow, Common Raven, American Robin,
Spotted Towhee, Savannah Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Golden-crowned Sparrow,
House Finch, Purple Finch, Western Meadowlarks, Norther Shrike, Belted
Kingfisher, Steller's Jay, Greater Yellowlegs, Dark-eyed Juncos and European
Starlings.

Saturday October 14:
A SORA was seen at the end of Buttertubs Drive near the Duck feeding area at
Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
Two VARIED THRUSH were seen near Boundry Road and Duffern Crescent in
Nanaimo.
Double-crested Cormorant, Canada Goose, American Wigeon, Mallard, Common
Merganser, Great Blue Heron,Bald Eagle, Rough-legged Hawk, Killdeer, Greater
Yellowlegs,Dowitcher, sp. Mew Gull, Ring-billed Gull, Glaucous-winged Gull,
Belted Kingfisher, Northern Flicker, Steller's Jay, Northwestern Crow,
Common Raven,
Northern Shrike, Varied Thrush, American Robin, European Starling, Marsh
Wren
Bewick's Wren, Purple Finch, Fox Sparrow, Song Sparrow, White-crowned
Sparrow, Golden-crowned Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, Savannah Sparrow, Spotted
Towhee, Red-winged Blackbird, and three Western Meadowlarks were seen at the
Nanaimo River Estuary in south Nanaimo.
Over thirty American Coots, six Pied-billed Grebes, Merlin, Song Sparrow,
Lincoln 's Sparrow, House Sparrows, Savannah Sparrows, Rock Pigeons, House
Finch,Marsh Wren, Bewick's Wren, Dark-eyed Juncos, Chestnut-backed
Chickadees,Bush Tits, Red-winged Blackbirds, Brewer's Blackbirds, Northern
Flickers, Belted Kingfisher, Bald Eagle, American Pipits, Brown Creeper,
Hutton's Vireo, Canada Geese, Great Blue Herons, Ring-necked Duck, Gadwall
Duck, Wood Ducks, 150 American Widgeons Lesser Scaup, Hooded Mergansers,
Ruby-crowned Kinglets
American Goldfinch and a Sora seen near the Bowen Road side at Buttertubs
Marsh in Nanaimo.

Friday October 13:
Common Loon, Horned Grebe, Red-necked Grebe, Western Grebe, Double-crested
Cormorant, Pelagic Cormorant, Canada Goose, Mallard, Harlequin Duck, Black
Scoter, Surf Scoter, White-winged Scoter, Belted Kingfisher, and a Great
Blue Heron were seen just off the point at Deep Bay.
Black Turnstone, Mew Gulls, California Gulls, Glaucous-winged Gulls,
Thayer's Gulls, Bonaparte's Gulls were seen just off shore at the Viewing
Tower at Qualicum Beach.
Rock Pigeons, Pileated Woodpecker, Northwestern Crows, Common Ravens
American Robins, European Starlings, Chestnut-backed Chickadees, House
Finch, Spotted Towhees, Red-winged Blackbirds, Brewer's Blackbirds,
Sharp-shinned Hawk, and California Quail were seen ia the 100 block of
Meridian Way in Parksville.
Canada Goose, American Wigeon, Mallard, Blue-winged Teal, Northern Pintail,
Harlequin Duck, Surf Scoter, White-winged Scoter, Black Scoter, Red-breasted
Merganser, Red-throated Loon, Pacific Loon, Common Loon, Red-necked Grebe,
Double-breasted Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Bald Eagle, Black-bellied
Plove,r
Semipalmated Plover, Killdeer, Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs,
Short-billed Dowitcher, Bonaparte's Gull, Mew Gull, California Gull, Herring
Gull, Thayer's Gull,
Glaucous-winged Gull, Belted Kingfisher and a Marsh Wren were seen at the
Englishman River Estuary in Parksville.

Thursday October 12:
EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in the Departure Bay area of Nanaimo.

Wednesday October 11:
A WILSON'S SNIPE were seen in a back yard at Departure Bay in Nanaimo.
A COOPER'S HAWK, HORNED GREBES, AMERICAN ROBINS and NORTHERN FLICKERS were
seen at Neck Point Park in Nanaimo.

Tuesday October 10:
PINE SISKINS, NORTHERN FLICKERS, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH, HOUSE FINCH, STELLER'S
JAYS nd DARK-EYED JUNCOS are visiting feeders in the 200 bloak of Dawkins
Lane in Nanaimo.
Northern Flicker, Steller's Jays, Anna's Hummingbird, American Robins, House
Finch, Purple Finch, Bewicks Wren, Dark- Eyed Juncos and European Starlings
were seen in a backyard along Ellis Place next to Planta Park in Nanaimo.
A Sora was seen right at the entrance to Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
Also seen at Buttertubs Marsh were Northern Harrier, two Sharp Shinned
Hawks, Steller?s Jays, Brown Creepers, Gold Crowned Kinglet, Song Sparrow,
Fox Sparrow, House Sparrow, Cedar Waxwings, American Goldfinches, House
Finches, several Northern Flickers, Band-tailed Pigeons, American Widgeon,
Mallards, three Hooded Mergansers .

Thursday October 05:
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were seen at Somenos Marsh in Duncan.
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS, PILEATED WOODPECKER, AMERICAN ROBIN, DARK-EYED JUNCOS,
STELLER'S JAYS and SONG SPARROWS were seen in a backyard along Ellis Place
next to Planta Park in Nanaimo.

Wednesday October 04:
A large flock of PINE SISKINS were seen along East Wellington area of
Nanaimo.

Monday October 02:
An immature SANDHILL CRANE was seen near Highway four and Clarke Road in
Whiskey Creek.
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS are visiting a yard in the 3700 block of Jingle Pot Road
in Nanaimo.

Sunday October 01,
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS are visiting feeders along Rovere Place in Nanaimo
